Side Door Launches New Redesigned Platform!
A Letter from our Co-Founders
Today, Side Door is so happy to launch our brand-new redesigned and refined platform! We’re returning to our main purpose - which was always to connect artists with hosts to create in-person shows.
Our team rode the pandemic's turbulent waves since March 2020, completing more than 1200 online shows. The moment demanded unprecedented requirements, and we responded swiftly to meet the needs of artists. We expect that online shows will continue to be a part of the greater live entertainment ecosystem, but it’s not where our heart is at.
In-person shows have vigorously returned and the competition for booking in traditional venues is staggering. More artists are touring than ever, with fewer venues to play. As a result, the need for a vibrant network of non-traditional venue spaces has never been greater.
Artists need places to play and efficient tools to source them. In an effort to support both of these needs, we have streamlined the Side Door workflow to better connect artists and hosts and make show planning incredibly easy.
At the core of our new platform is a powerful new tool we call “Show Calls,” which allows artists and hosts to broadcast their availability to their fan bases and the Side Door community at large.
Shows ticketed via Side Door will continue to enjoy:
show promotion on Side Door’s website, socials and newsletter
option to use pay-what-you-want ticket pricing
ticketing in 14 currencies with localized tax rates
automated payouts direct to each party, based on the show split
performance royalty fees collected and remitted
real-time ticket sales tracking, available to all administrators of the show
affiliate links to track sales on various marketing channels
simple guest list management
QR codes for door sales
easy cancellations and refunds
fast and friendly human support for all shows
To kick off the new release, we partnered with BreakOut West to book tours in Side Door spaces for artists selected for the festival and conference throughout the BC region.
Side Door’s mission continues to focus on accessibility, transparency and democratizing the live performance world. We have been working on our equity, diversity and inclusion strategy for the last two plus years and doing extensive research, learning and internal discussions on how to improve our own practices and influence positive global change.
We’re excited to publish our EDI vision which will be accompanied by a regularly updated blog highlighting our goals and progress. We believe that our company and this industry cannot flourish without centering the needs of equity-seeking groups and recognizing the ongoing oppression of racialized folks in our world.
Side Door believes live performance can build community, lift hearts and change minds. We are deeply committed to creating a platform that facilitates meaningful connections and shows, focusing on the needs of the artist.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Without question, we wouldn't be where we are today without each and every one of you.
Let's continue to change the live entertainment industry together.
Sincerely,
Laura Simpson (CEO, co-founder) and Dan Mangan (VP business development, co-founder) on behalf of the entire Side Door Team
